MonMot

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-28

MonMot (“we”, “us”) is a browser extension and website at https://monmot.com. This policy explains what MonMot stores and how it is used. It is written to describe how the product actually works.

The free tier is anonymous

On the free tier we do not ask for your name or email. When you first use MonMot, we create a random anonymous device ID and use it to keep your saved words together. That ID is what identifies your data to us — not a personal account.

What we store

We store the words you explicitly capture. For each one that means: the term you selected, the sentence it appeared in, the URL and title of the page it came from, and timestamps. This is saved on our servers, located in the United States, under your anonymous ID so you can review and study your words later.

We do not collect your browsing history, and we do not collect page content beyond the text you explicitly select.

Processing

To produce a translation and explanation for a word, the captured word and its sentence are sent to a third-party language-processing service, subject to that service's terms.

No ads, no selling data

We do not show ads and we do not use advertising trackers. We do not sell your data. We do not currently use any third-party analytics.

Your controls

You can export everything with “Download my data”, which produces a JSON file of your saved words. You can delete saved words. Uninstalling the extension clears the local token stored in your browser.

Children

MonMot is not directed at children under 13.
